Hi Alan, More than likely your problem is that your brushes in the voltage regulator is bad. THey tend to get worn out and the spring tension on the back of the brushes will not be sufficient to hold them again the comutator on the alternator armature. Check this first but also check your ground and positive cable to the battery. Your best bet is the brushes though! hopefully, this will help. You can go to www.thesaabsite.com if you need the parts.
