Hi all, I need some help eradicating the electrical gremlins from my '85 900 T-16. Here's what happened. I went over to the coast this morning (about a 150 mile drive). No problems on the way over. When I first started the car to go home, the battery light came on. I revved the engine up a little bit and it went out, so I crossed my fingers and started home. After perhaps 10 or 15 minutes, the battery light came on again, so again I revved the engine and it went out. I repeated this process for the next hour or so (each time it was harder to get the light to go out). After that I just couldn't get the light to go out, so I drove the rest of the way home with it on. During the last 10 minutes of my drive, I noticed that when I'd apply the brake or turn on the blinkers the tach would drop to zero; I also noticed that the turn signals and the battery light were by this point very dim. After a few minutes, the tach decided to die completely, and just as I pulled up in front of my house the car died and *would* not start again: no clicking, no cranking, nothing. It is getting enough current to run the interior lights, warning buzzers, power locks, and power windows (slowly). I also noticed that my CD player would try to eject when I turned the key back off (there was no CD in it). The alternator belt is in place, and the battery seems to have some amount of charge (12v with no load, 6v under load -- yes, 6v is a little low, but I would expect *something*). So... before I hand over wads of money to a towing company and my mechanic, does anyone have any ideas? All replies appreciated. Thank you.
