In article <8gmhp8$abm$2nopsam.planetinternet.be>, lauwers.sablonnopsame says... I avoided jumping into this but .... The major problem with the 9-3 has nothing to do with torque steer. An easy test to prove this to yourself is to get one wheel onto a wet part of the road while the other is on dry and hit the brake. What occurs? The car pulls to the side that is running on the wet road. If one looks at the alignment specifications you will find that the total toe is almost zero. Thus if there is compliance in the suspension bushings the car can go into a toe out situation. As we all know toe out causes a very disquieting feeling for the driver (car tends to dart about). Two solutions to this problem. First you can increase the total toe in such that toe out cannot occur. While I have tried this and found it to work the result is that you will generate nonuniform wear on the tires. An alternative solution is to get bushings with less compliance. This is the Abbott solution in which polyurethane TCA bushings are fitted in place of the stock "hydraulic" bushings. Why were the hydraulic fitted by Saab? I can only assume that they were trying to isolate vibrations from the steering wheel. I have the Abbott rescue pack on my Viggen. Works great and there is really no down side. Given that there is no real rotational forces on the TCA bushings, polyurethane is an acceptable solution. In other words they don't squeak. I should add that Abbott's rack mount / brace also helps prevent darting about. All of this is standard fare for high performance / racing cars. Abbott implemented the "formula fixes" and it works. Good job in my opinion. For reference the following book is a reasonable tutorial on this subject, Adams, H., "Chassis Engineering", HPBooks, 1993. > What about the Viggen rescue pack from Abbott ? > > Johan. > 88 900 i > 94 9000 CS > 94 9000 CSE > 95 900 SE conv. > > >
