Subject: Re: Overheating - sometimes it really is just the thermostat!

Kind of glad to hear your comment - I was feeling a bit strange recommending to a couple of readers on this NG to check their thermostats, only to find that they were having a completely different problem. But I've had stuck thermostats twice on my 1983's (900 and 99). In my cases the thermostat would be stuck open, so that coolant *always* went 100% via the radiator. On a nice cold morning (-20C) the car would never come up to the right operating temperature (the needle would sit at about 4 o'clock instead of the more normal 3 o'clock position), so fuel economy would be abysmal. Good luck with your heater valve repair. The only air conditioning I have is an open driver's side window ;-) Regards, Robert Gothenburg (1983 900 GL, 1999 9-3 200, 1983 99 GL R.I.P.)
