My opinion is different regarding the automatic transmission and reliability. My '99 9-5 SE Automatic has had very few problems and a person I work with has had a similar positive experience. If you look at repair records from Consumer Reports or Edmunds, the 9-5's are pretty good. The automatic, which one person noted hunts for low gears when you don't need them DOES NOT do this. It is one of the best automatics I've ever driven, a perfect match for the turbo (one of the major car magazines agreed with that point), and always in the right gear at the right time...
