Subject: Re: What to Buy 900 or 9000

Ok, if the rear seats are that different as well I'll keep quiet. I knew they are different but but not *that* different that it would stop them from folding flat. Sorry! I will however send rockets and other explosive material to your house if you call my car a non-Aero.....:) This is how it is: The first 9000 "Aero" model came in -91 in Sweden. In other countries (europe) it was called 9000 Turbo S. These cars had all the options installed (apart from TCS that was optional on -91) and are today very rare. Abut 70 cars are avilable in Sweden ( models 91-92). These nice aeroplane style seats was not available in the early models (-91). I think the first occurance was in 93. The -91 Aero (and -92 Turbo S, there was no "Aero" in 92 here) does have the same engine as the standard 9000 2.3t, ie LH2.4.2 + DI/APC and the Garret T25 turbo. In -93 the very first version of Trionic was introduced. Also the Aero model got another turbocharger, the Mitsubishi TD04-15T, the very same turbo that is used on all Aeros even today. At the same time the gear ration was changed. Due to this the first LH models from 91 and 92 are very quick compared to later Aeros, the lowe gear ration and faster spool up makes these cars perform very well.... And I might add that with some minor changes (remapped LH and DI/apc, 3" exhaust and a fullflow cat) these -91,-92 2.3t (Aeros or not) easlily out run even the new 9-5 Aero. The current setup gives me 1.3bars at max and about 1.1bars at 5000rpm. In torque, this means a maximum of +400Nm and about 350Nm att 5500. And if you drive the car using your head, there's no problem with the gearbox or anything.... So as a summary, it sure is an Aero and was called Aero as well here in Saab-land, although not equipped with a mitsu charger or the nice seats...(the -91 aero do have other "exclusive" seats, different from the standard 2.3t but I dont know how to explain how they look in english) The -91 Aero is by many people seen as the original 9000 Aero, simply since it was the first one produced on this platform.
