Subject: Scott Saab in Tampa/StPete Florida <---- RIP OFF

This is another scam to avoid. I bought my 1996 900 SE from CarMax about 3 months ago. I had a problem with the "reverse lock" on the transmission. You are supposed to lift up on the shifter ring to get the car to go into reverse. I could put the car in reverse without lifting up the ring. The car ran fantastic, but this bothered me, and its a safety feature, so I took it back to carmax. They don't know anything about Saab's so they sent it to Scott Saab. (www.scottsaab.com) Once scott saab got my car into their hands they decided that in order to fix the reverse ring they needed to replace the entire transmission. Needless to say they had their run with the car and sent an enormous bill to carmax for things that weren't even broken, and for somethings that were broken but never even fixed! The ring around the head light switch turns witht he switch, they charged us for a new one on the invoice but oddly enough it still does it. Car Max payed for everything with a smile, gave me a loaner vehicle the entire time and kept me up to date on the progress of the car. In the mean time Scott Sabb did infact switch my transmission, but instead of using a new/factory rebuilt one like they charged car max for, they used some second hand transmission that was just pulled out of another car, I have no proof of this but I am willing to bet any amount of money that this is what happened because the transmission i brought in there felt fine I have been driving nothing but standard transmission cars for the past 7 years and I am pretty sure that I would notice something especially on a new car where I was allready looking for problems. I did however with this (new) transimission. I took in a car with a perfectly working transmission and got back one that grinded when going into second or third gear! They kept my car in the shop charging Car Max for various things. It was there for about a month. During that time I ordered crossdrilled rotors, springs,(www.saabperformanceparts.com they suck also) muffler, and rims. I was anxious to have it all put on, and since Scott Saab was occupying my car for weeks at a time, and I wanted everything to be done professionaly I went ahead and payed their exorbitant service rates to have them put my parts on. When they put my muffler on (sports silencer 4" oval from www.abbottracing.com) they put it on crooked and it burnt my rear roll pan. I went back to complain about it and the service manager was like oh well, its a non standard aftermarket exhaust and thats why I am having problems. HELLO its made for 900 SE 1994-1998 specifically I would hardly call that non-standard aftermarket. If any of you have seen any of these mufflers and the bottom rear end of your 900 you would know that it lines up perfectly, or should. When they mounted mine it was off to the right side and burnt the plastic on the bottom of the bumper, it would have been fine otherwise. Also I was only getting 18 miles per gallon after they worked on my car. I brought that back and said "yeah my gas mileage has been doing really poorly is there maybe something that didn't get connected when you put the car back together?" He then told me that it was perfectly normal. That is why I posted the question in here about what kind of gas mileage you guys are getting. It really suck that places like this exist, especially when its a dealership, I had them do my work specifically to have it done corectly and avoid poorly skilled mechanics and possible scams, which I didn't avoid either and actually got screwed over twice as badly Return to Main Index
