This job may be a bit more than a weekender can handle. Not to downplay your abilities but this could turn out to be a big job depending on the problem. The problem is more than likely the pinion bearing has failed causing the pinion shaft to drop. If this is the case some tools would be necessary that you probably do not have. Hopefully this will help.
