John, I won't give you any good reasons not to ditch it, but I would be happy to take it off of your hands! The fan incident you experienced is a classic failure of the ACC fan speed controller (including taking out the fuse to shut off the fan). FYI, this fan speed controller is made by ALPS, a Japanese company with a pretty good reputation for quality in the electronics industry. The component that fails in the speed controller is a transistor (I believe it is actually a TRIAC) that overheats, fails, then no longer shuts off power to the fan. In the future, it may be helpful to shut off the rear side window blowers, as I believe they run through this circuit also and put an extra load on the system. You can get a new controller from the dealer for about $150 and install it yourself in a hour or two (have some small Torx drivers available) or you can order the part from Radio Shack for about $10 and solder it into the controller yourself. It is located under the hood behind the false bulkhead where the air intake for the ACC system is (the passenger side) directly below the A/C reciever/drier. It is reported that one of the reasons this part fails is that the heater fan is starting to go -- therefore drawing too much current. I don't know the specifics about all the problems you have had with your Saab, but it could be a combination of the mechanic replacing a few extra things to make sure everything gets fixed (with your ACC system.), or possibly not getting the installation quite right. That is easy to do with the hydraulic clutch system. I find bleeding the system to be quite difficult. What did you mean by "complete ACC system" anyway? Was that the ACC controller, which usually doesn't go out, or did you mean the Air Condidtioning system? In wich case, I doubt that everything was actually replaced even though the price was probably quite high if a dealer or mechanic did all the work.
