Subject: Re: 2001 Saab 9-5 Wagon

Apparently Saab and Saturn have implemented a "no haggle" policy on all their new vehicles. I discovered this back in 1999 while chatting with a salesperson at my local Saab dealer. This new policy is supposed to maintain "equality" of value across the board for all new Saab purchasers. i.e. Before this, buyer A might be able to haggle down a few thousand off the sticker price, while buyer B isn't quite so adept at haggling. Buyer B purchases at full sticker price. In so doing, the "value" of the same car coming off the lot can be many thousands of dollars apart. This is how the salesman explained it to me anyway. The "no haggle" policy is intended to level the playing field and maintain vehicle values. It makes some sense in theory, but I think in practice and reality it just keeps the dealers profit margins stable. Any other thoughts on this out there?
