The dealer, who's pretty good, had no helpful ideas, either. Maybe I need to hire a welder. Overall, I am very pleased with the 9-5 wagon. It drives well, is by far the most comfortable car I've ever been in, it's been solid (except for a roof rattle that the dealer fixed), it gets reasonable mileage (30 mpg on the highway...5 speed, 2.3t, using 87 octane gas), and it's a good winter car. (I live in northern NH, and I have a couple of steep hills on my commute.) Only 3 complaints so far: the canoe attachment issue, the cup holder that is just a little smaller than any standard bike bottle diameter, and, as I found out with my first flat last night, the well for the spare tire will not hold the tire it's replacing. If you get a flat with a full car, you've got a problem. They give you a bag to put around the flat tire...except that the bag is too small!
