Subject: Re: Gas type for 9-5?

The 9-5 manual says you can use 86- 93 octane but saab recomends 90 for the 4 cyl 92 for the 6. key word "recomends" this is to get max preformance on turbo engines. The reason you want high octane gas is to control pre ignition pinging. Saab has a knock control system that allows you to use 87 octane without damaging the engine. You just don't get the same preformance. I use 87 octane all the time in my 92 9000 turbo and have 140,000 miles. I still have plenty of power to get where I want to go. I spend the money I save on flowers for my wife which gets me more than that high octane gas does.> -- Jason Pearce http://www.swedishwrench.com Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
