I have a 92 SAAB 900 3 door and was disappointed with the AM reception of the Akai unit fitted so I changed to a Blaupunkt Seattle. The reception was no better with the Blaupunkt and just to cheer me up, the Akai is working much better in the car it was moved to. I have replaced the cable from the radio to the antenna. The signal is never particularly strong but sounds distorted with the engine running. I think this may be the Blaupunkt's "AM noise suppression" trying to deal with ignition noise. My next step is to replace the spark leads and point a suppressor on the coil. I have also considered a signal amplifier on the antenna but this should be unnecessary on Blaupunkt. Does anybody know for sure that the antenna is "optimized for FM" Any advice would be appreciated.
