Subject: 87 900s pings



My 1987 900s 16 valve pings after I run the engine to about 4000 rpm and
then shift gears from 2nd to 3rd or 3rd to 4th.  The pinging doesn't occur
under load. It happens after I push in the clutch and the rpms are dropping
as I shift into the higher gear.  When I engage the clutch and step on the
gas in the higher gear I hear no pinging.  Any suggestions?
