DI = Direct Ignition. Instead of one coil serving all spark plugs, each plug has its own coil connected to it directly. Gives 40 kV for a spark, so some have said be careful if you test with the DI cassette lifted. The DI cassette is that big red thing (or black in some cars, including the Viggen) that sits atop the motor, between the inlet/exhaust ports. Can't tell you more than that. My wife has one in her car but when I lift the bonnet on it I don't see any parts that I understand (let alone dare to play with) so its contents remain a big mystery to me.
