My '86 with around 130k has developed lazy shifting. It wants to stay in low gear way too long and I have to modulate the pedal to kinda persuade it to shift, which it does eventually. I only sporadically can get kickdown once it's in high gear. Gear positions seem to select properly except that I notice the necessity to give it just a touch of gas when selecting Reverse to get it into gear, although it never fails to do so. I thought this just started on Fri, but now realize that a lack of power I've been noticing periodically was actually the trans not kicking down when necessary. So... any chance it's just that easy and cheap "clean the governor" procedure procedure I see in the service manual? Or is it the less popular "clean out Bob's wallet til there's nothin' left but some fuzz" ? Anybody who's experienced this? How'd it go?
