If there is noise at the front of any A/C compressor with the A/C off, it's caused by the bearing that allows the A/C drive pulley to freewheel without turning the compressor. The worst part of this is that part is normally a standard ball bearing that costs no more than $10 if you buy it separately. Sorry I know nothing of Saabs, but you may be able to remove the pulley and lubricate this bearing. This may make it last for 2 more hours or forever, depending on how lucky you are.
