[...] Okay, this is not exactly comparing like with like but it may be a pointer to modern thinking... I recently had a Volvo in for routine service. Afterwards on the passenger's seat there was an unopened 1 litre bottle of Esso (Exxon outside UK) synthetic oil. After unloading some thoughts at the service receptionist, about the wisdom of putting _any_ oil container, unopened or not, on my upholstery, I asked what was going on. It seems Volvo's official line is to replace traditional oils with synthetics and they are ready to accept the consequences -- or so the receptionist said. -- Andrew Stephenson
