[...] Points to consider: spiders AFAIK do not actually "hear" but feel sounds with their feet, so sound is out too (unless you can shake the whole dash); and they're territorial, tending to lurk in one spot if there's food to be caught, so it's unlikely to wander out into the open unless it feels completely safe (total stillness, no odd smells, etc). My opinion is that enticing the spider out isn't a reliable option. You have a better chance of killing it. If you wish to try the catching-it-in-the-open route, maybe some flypapers spread around would work. Or a pet chameleon. But if you prefer to kill it and leave its corpse to dessicate in the depths of your dash for some hapless mechanic to discover one day (while replacing a bulb?), try Vapona[tm]-impregnated slabs (for flies, officially, but why should they not work on spiders, too?) slipped into the dash. Leave the car alone for a dew days, totally sealed against draughts. When you next come to open the car, LET IT AIR THOROUGHLY, because Vapona can affect the nervous systems of mammals (eg, you) as well as insects. (This was a hot issue some years ago. Respectable researchers reported detecting comment-worthy levels in cats and dogs after use of V-containing flea collars.) Even if this does not kill the spider, it should deplete its food supply (dead flies on seats & carpeting <g>), perhaps forcing the spider out to explore, when the flypaper could zap it. (?) Another off-the-wall notion is to slip the hose of a _powerful_ vacuum cleaner into as many crevices of the dash as you can. It may not suck up the spider; but your dash innards'll be cleaner. This may work better after starvation/poisoning has weakened the brute's grip. Your next move probably involves heavily armed midgets. -- Andrew Stephenson
