Subject: Re: Goodbye Newsgroup!

I've resisted this thread due to its confrontational nature. However, I think its time to take an objective view of this. What's the purpose of this newsgroup? The purpose is to help fellow Saab owners answer questions relating to problems they are experiencing, as well as discussing common topics on all models of Saabs, past and present. We all know and love our Saabs. But, like all mechanical beasts, they are far from perfect, and they fail from time to time like any other man made object. With the resources that TW (MasterTech), Tom Townsend, Ywan Mason, and the Saabnet.com offer -- at no consulatation fees, we can try to digest all of this information and come up with a diagnosis of a problem. All of us have had experiences with various newsgroups. It is a known fact that within any newsgroup there are always those willing to criticize and flame fellow posters. A few feel that they are "self-annointed" geniuses on the subject at hand. I guess it's just human nature. It's always interesting to note that those who generally indulge in this behavior are those who don't use their own name and/or address, rather a moniker of some sort. Also, if all of us criticize everyone who commit spelling, grammatical, and typographical errors within a post to a newsgroup, everyone would be faced with this from time to time. We knew what TW meant regarding oil change intervals for the turbo. Criticism on this was unwarranted. I've purchased OEM parts for both of my classic 900s from TW's website at considerable savings over dealer prices. I've posted orders as late as 2:00 PM, and still received the parts by Airborne Express the very next morning, and yet only charged ground shipping fees. In over 30 years of mail order experience, I've only seldom had as good service from anyone else. Plus, he's even called me on several occasions to discuss my technical problems in an effort to help. In conclusion, let's all try to be civil on this newsgroup. I've left other newsgroups because of the constant bickering and flaming of a few posters. Life's to short to have listen to constant complaints, when others are only trying to help. Don Allen Urbana, IL
