I haven't noticed that. Call me silly, but I expect a high end car > like Saab to get the big stuff AND the small stuff right. Sure. Storage space is truly limited in the 9-3. Partly because the car is so narrow and the already narrow center console is used fro the door/window buttons etc. Likewise, it's nice to have a CD player but where do they expect us to keep the CDs? The glove compartment has a very awkward shape for CDs. If you keep the booklet and put a few CDs then each time you open it, all the CDs fall on you. OTOH, the huge trunk has served us wonderfully in our travels, first a few months in Europe, then taking six months worth of luggage to the airport. Then six months later, driving from Illinois to Alberta with our one year worth of luggage plus all the junk that we accumulated such as kitchen stuff that we bought, small TV, small wet vacuum etc. When opening the trunk, the sleeping bag that was on top and had been compressed by the lid would inflate... Anyway, tradeoffs...
