Subject: Re: how to remove dog eared oil drain plug?

Now that you have read all of the other notes - get a Snap-On 13MM socket. These sockets grab on the FLATS not the points. I did not believe they were worth the money until I borrowed a set. I was all set the grind off a rusted, rounded nut, when I easily spun it off with a Snap-On socket. I had tried using vice grips, nut spliters, open end wrenches and finally was going to grind them off. If you can't find Snap-On, I believe that MAC and some premium tool companies others use a similar design. Just two warnings: premium tools are not inexpensive and once you use them you will never go back to Craftsman quality again. So what if Sears will replace a broken socket for free, if it does not do the job, what good is it? Beware of using any excess force. The torque specs for an '86 oil pan drain bolt were only 30 lb/ft. redonald wrote: > I've lost the edges to the hex oil drain plug bolt and now I can't get the > sprocket to hold - so its stuck solid.
