Rust! Both front fenders and the metal in the wheel wells rusted away. The car was an '86 with over 200,000 miles. It could have been repaired, but was not worth money as almost all of the mechanical components were original and would have required replacement or repair. If there was little or no rust, the mechanical components could have replaced.
