Subject: Hesitation and check eng. light on 4th gear

Hello! I have Saab 9000i (S) '89 with 200k miles. Yesterday after overtaking a truck on 4th gear, the engine didn't want to go over 4500 rpm. And when i forced it the "check engine light" flashed and the revs did rise but slowly (the light flashed all the time). I tried the same on 3rd gear and there wasn't any light flashing and the revs rose normally. I believe that on 5th gear the same thing as on 4th gear would happen but due to slippery roads here in Finland I haven't been able to confirm that. The fuel consumption of the car is pretty high (10-15l/100km), if that helps. Has anyone experienced the same? What might cause that? Thanks, Terho
