Subject: Re: 9-5 versus BMW versus Mercedes 320

I just sold my BMW, and it is the last of 5 beemers I'll ever drive. The 80's were great, and my son still drives an '86 - 325 that won't die. The new BMW's are junk. My local dealer is Braman BMW in Palm Beach, and they're incompetent and dishonest, which can be very expensive when the warranty runs out. BMW has had to extend it's engine warranty on the 8cyl - 740 series because the engines explode (the Ford Escort or Geo Metro does better than that!). In 10 years I've had 3 bad computers which causes the ignition to surge at idle (I presume all BMW owners learn this at some time). Why will I never buy another BMW? I just got my first new Saab and absolutely love it. The car's been in for minor warranty work and the dealership was wonderful. They bend over backward to help out. They are courteous and respectful. Our local BMW people are arrogant (maybe too many billionaires in Palm Beach)! My new car has really comfy leather seats, a fabulous stereo system. Looks pretty simple from the outside, so it's not an attention getter until you sit in it. Handling is fabulous at any speed, and for a convertible, this car is astonishingly quiet (3 layer insulation in the top). Get a Saab. Be happy.
