Hi Gerry. I can strongly recommend Mobil 1. I've used both the 5W-50 as well as the 0W-40, both fully synthetic. I'ts one of the best "investments" you can make! I had an old Saab 99 from 1978, with 200,000+ miles on it (not by me). After I started using the Mobil 1, you could easily tell, that the cold start period went down significantly. The oil-usage didn't raise and over a period of 3-4 month, the mileage improved by approx. 10%. After the 99 I got a Saab 900 Turbo16, with 150,000 miles. In a turbo-engine, where it often gets VERY hot, thede fully-synth oils has great advantages, as they are more resistant to the heat. Cheaper mineral oils start to degenerate (the additives) much sooner, which leads to smudge and sod inside the engine (and turbocharger). Now I have a 9000 CS non-turbo, and still using Mobil 1 (0W-40). It also has driven more than 150,000 miles and is running smoothly. Neither the 900 nor the 9000 is using/burning any oil at all!! If your car is a non-turbo, you can increase the miles inbetween oilchanges, if you switch to Mobil 1, coming from a mineral oil that is. So, if you now have 5,000 miles inbetween oilchanges, you can increase that to 7-8,000 miles. Do you however have a turbo-engine, I suggest that you keep it at the 5,000 miles. Good luck with your oil-"change"! ;) Cheers!
