Even in this country I find the AC very useful - it speeds up demist times, and actually used it yesterday, it was warm outside. Don't forget that it is illegal to vent the refrigerant to the atmosphere. Whilst I know that the AC compressor is expensive (mine is noisy, but still works) I'd definitely investigate replacement rather than removal.
