This is either because the synthetic cleans all the sludge out of the seals that was preventing the leaks, or because the synthetic hardens some older seal compounds. Pick your theory, if it leaks, the cause is not really important. On the positive side, new Saabs (post 97.5) come with a sythetic/dino blend. I've heard some amazing stories of synthetics doing great things for turbo bearings... even those partially fowled. Most mechanics will tell you that it will prevent the top ring from sticking after 100K miles or so. Engines that use synthetic look almost new inside after 100K miles. So, if you car is "old", think about it. If it's newer, don't hesitate. Bob
