Simon, The Aero seats are 'strange', compared with standard 9000 seats, but they're pretty comfortable once you get used to them. How much has the previous owner told you about the engine? I have a feeling 230hp is pretty standard for a 9000 Aero. Upgrades are indeed possible - talk to people like Abbott Racing, Trent Saab or Hirsch Performance. At 6 years / 60k miles there shouldn't be anything needing done to the car; there are a few things that may crop up in the next 100,000 miles - DI cartridge, head gasket, timing chains - but then they may not. I'm not aware of any issues with the autobox, but I've never been a big fan. There was a Saab 9000 owner survey published somewhere (Saabnet.com?), try to get hold of it if you can.
