Subject: serpentine belt problem 89 9000 turbo
My wife's serpentine belt broke 150 miles away from home. We got it
fixed with a a new belt and pulley attachment. (I don't know exaclty
what piece that was; I haven't seen the invoice yet). It made it
home safely. Now, however, the belt seems to intermittently slip,
since occasionally the alternator light comes on and the power
steering goes out.
I know this system uses a tensioner of some sort, but more than that I
do not know. Could it be that the tensioner is bad? Perhaps that
fouled the belt in the first place?
Also, she reports that the turbo gauge no longer moves, though she
doesn't complain of a lack of power. I tightened up the vacuum hoses
just after I bought it to note that the gauge became a lot more
active. Is the serpentine belt at all related to the turbo?
Thanks,
Dustin
