Hi John, I've have had a similar problem with my '82 900 K-jetronic. (warm start oke, cold start oke, but after 1 sec 3 cylinders for about 25 seconds. After that everything okay) At the end the following appeared: I noticed that one of my plugs had a bit of rust. I also noticed white emulsion in my oil. There was a tiny crack in my headgasket wich leaked some water with cold engine. This water caused the rust and the emulsion. After a few seconds the metal parts got hot and closed themselves (by extension of the metal). After replacing the plugs and the gasket, the problem was over..... I don't know weather you have the same problem, but maybe this helps.
