Subject: Re: '83 900S brake calipers
I replaced the calipers on my wife's 85 900 T about a year ago and I just
replaced the calipers on my 86 900 T. I used rebuilds from Checker Auto. As
I remember, it was $50 each for the '85 and $35 each for the '86. Plus $50
core deposit, which you get back when you return the old ones.
In both cases the bleed screw for the right caliper was funny looking and
didn't bleed so I had to use the bleed screw from one of the old calipers.
Otherwise, I'm pretty happy.
I replaced the right side of the '86 with a used unit (about $90 I think) a
few years back and it never was right.
The '85 calipers just looked tired and I did the brakes and just couldn't
use the old units in good conscience, especially at that price. The right
caliper on the '86 was dragging - the handbrake never released properly.
Have the rotors turned for full satisfaction.
Now both cars are fine :-)
I live in Colorado, but check your local parts places like Pep Boys,
Checker, Auto Zone, Western Auto (or whatever they call them now), etc.
Charles.
