obvious troll .. but I'll nibble a little The *Idea* (marketing) behind using the more anonymous number/letter (740i, S40, C220) is to play down the individual model in favor of the Marque (BMW, Volvo, M-B). The thinking is that you may become model loyal (Camero's are good, but Blazers are bad). If they keep models more anonymous, you say things like "I drive a Volvo", not "I drive a S40" ... but with Chevy, people say "I drive a Corvette" or "I drive a Lumina", not "I drive a Chevy". Class over. Nothing to see here ... move along .....
