Subject: Re: 9000 Aero oil leak

Very difficult to diagnose an oil leak from a photo. Only way is to give the engine a good scrubbing, get it running, and watch carefully. Given where it's coming from, I'd say probably crank seal. Tranny has to come out to replace. Other possibility is head gasket. I've got a similar leak on my 1987 9kT. Been like that for months. I thinks it's considerably more than yours. I'm leaving mine until I pull the tranny to do the clutch, in a year or two. What should you do? It all depends on how much it bothers you. If you really hate it, get it fixed. It will cost you maybe 6-8 hrs labour, not much in parts. If it doesn't bother you, wait until you have the tranny removed for other work, eg clutch.
