Hi Dave, Let's assume that your mechanic has assessed the situation correctly (no current drain). In that case, you could have a problem with the battery itself. Here in Scandinavia many batteries give out after 3-5 years, due to many cold starts. How old is your battery? If your battery permits access to the individual cells, measure the specific gravity of the liquid in each cell and see if there are differences (all warnings and disclaimers, concerning corrosives and explosive gases etc, apply ;-) You could try getting the battery charged fully, drive the car home, then disconnect the battery completely for a couple of days. Reconnect it and start. If you have an internal short in the battery, you should have problem getting the engine to turn over. Tell us how it turns out!
