Subject: Re: 9000 speakers

I tried Kenwood's and they were horrible (and I like Kenwood). In the end I put Magnat speakers (single speaker, dual voice coil) in the front, and Magnets with crossovers in the back. They fit the original hole (100mm in front) and can nearly take 80w RMS (from an old Kenwood amp made in the days when quoted wattage was RMS). I now have a nice sounding setup with no changes to the original speaker enclosures, and a decent sub in the boot, all powered by 2 Kenwood 300w amps and the 80w Kenwood, running off a Kenwood 7070R head unit and KG6090 graphic (most of this stuff is at least 10 years old, which say a lot for Kenwood, but I can't get a decent sound from any of the Kenwood speakers I've tried in the front of my 9000). Magnat are online (a top end German Hi-Fi company), and several UK car audio dealers stock them. You'll also get good advice on different setups in uk.rec.audio.car.
