Prior to recharging, my ac system didn't even have enough freon to engage the compressor. It probably had been that way for at least a year (I just bought the car in February). That was my hope as well but it still makes the same amount of noise. I don't know if they oiled it or not. The strange thing is that I really only notice it at idle. When I am cruising down the highway I can't hear it but I can feel in engaging & disengaging because of the extra load on the engine. i don't know what that means.
