My 1997 900S just went out of warranty (55K) and the AC compressor makes a lot of noise when it's on. I assume it's a bearing failing (it only makes the noise when it's on, and not all the time). Which I believe rules out the idler tensioner. Any other possibilities worth exploring? I had the Saab dealer look at it and they quoted about $1,000 to replace it - without any other complications. As it's out of warranty I can get it repaired at another shop, probably less expensively. Is it worth the risk? Any feedback is appreciated! Harry Guilford, CT USA
