Subject: 9000 Tailgate lock Fixed - Help with Sunroof?

I can now lock the tailgate of my newly acquired '89 9000 2.0 16V Turbo. For anybody having trunk lock problems I will explain what I did at the end of this post. My sunroof still jams when sliding - any ideas please? I have cleaned all the mating surfaces I can readily get to with white spirit, sprayed WD40 everywhere and finally applied a light grease. Still the thing jams as it approaches the shut position. I shall tackle the offside rear door lock tomorrow which is neither locked nor unlocked by the central locking - you need to push/pull the plastic button to lock/unlock the door. I hope the problem will be obvious I get the door trim off. Regarding the tailgate lock - it wouldn't (lock that is), either by central locking or by key. I removed the tailgate trim and prodded, and poked . . . trying to work out how the thing was supposed to work and why it didn't. n fact everything was working well but the linkage rod from lock barrel to actuator plate (is that the right description?) was adjusted too short (the rod assembly comprises two individual rods connected by an adjusting hex barrel connector). I wound the adjuster out to get a decent length but in so doing I broke the plastic clip which holds the rod in place at the strike-plate end of the assembly and when I slammed the trunk shut the link rod bounced out of place, locking me out. I worried about whether I could get back in for all of about 30 seconds before I was fiddling about inside the trunk, trying to relocate the rod. it's past midnighthere in England now and the prospect of finding a spare plastic clip is not good. After a couple of minutes thinking about how I could apply a makeshift mod to keep the rod in place without a locating clip at each end I decides you don't actually need two clips. I took the other locating clip, from the lock barrel end and fitted this at the striking end and dispensed with the need for a clip at the barrel end by routing the rod through the slot from the wrong side - it physically can't jump out of place now. Mal.
