Subject: Re: Does anyone use synthetic oils?

I have used Mobil 1 in my vehicles for some time. No mechanical breakdowns so far . . . and, with the last major service with my '85 900, the cam cover, and everything else on the top end, looks as clean as when new. I have had no seal problems, and no more leaks than the typical classic 900. Actually, my engine is tight, the only leak I've ever had with this 900 was the steering rack seals before I installed a rebuilt Saginaw rack. I purchase Mobil 1 at my local Blain's Farm and Fleet store. Typical "sale" price for 10W30 is $3.50/qt. or even less by the case. Changes are done at every 3K. And, contrary to what Saab or many say, I've used Mobil 1 synthetic oil in my 5-speed since day one with the '85 900. Still shifts fine to this day, 16 years and 4 months after I bought the car. Synchro action is a bit slower than normal, because of the slippery nature of the synthetic actually decreases the synchro action (as synchro's require some friction to work properly). But, with the base 900 8-valve, there is no reason for expiditious shifts anyway!! Don '85 900 8-valve '87 900S 16-valve '70 Volvo 144S '94 Dodge Grand Caravan ES (all on Mobil 1)
