In an attempt to be responsive: First, I have to apologize that this will be somewhat of a generic response as my newsgroup access doesn't appear to reach back to the original post that included the link to this specific vehicle. However, there are a few issues that come up often with the MY'96 SET Convertible that you'll want to be careful about: The convertible tops had an issue with what is known as the "5th bow motor". Basically, the motor that lifts/drops the top and tonneau cover tends to crap out. Some changes were make after the 1997 model, but the problem comes up with 1994-1997 convertibles. (This is a big reason I just bought a 1998 convertible - the repair cost on this is pretty stiff). If it is a manual transmission, the clutch cable on the '96 has a bad reputation. They changed to a hydraulic clutch midway through MY '97 in an effort to deal with the problem. Those are the only two major items that I can think of relative to the '96. You might consult http://www.saabnet.com/ for further issues about this particular car - you could search their bulletin board and find pretty extensive feedback about similar information requests. Hope that helps. -AJRITZ 1998 SET Convertible
