You can verify the pump failure by putting a link in the fuse box in the glove compartment between two numbers. I don't recall the two fuses, but maintenance manuals like Haynes describe the test). Don't forget that (here in England anyway) you can get the actual pump bit on it's own for much less than a complete assembly - about £40 here, against £200+ for the whole thing). It's fiddly to change (pull the rear seat out - definitely easier), carefully remove the feed and return pipes (they break really easily, and in the UK only one of them is available - the one with a non return valve in, I think, so you have to slightly mod it if necessary). The giant ring that holds the pump is awful to undo if not done before - a giant adjustable wrench is required. Once out, it's easy, if fiddly, to remove the actual pump from the float assembly and change it.
