I've read some varying comments on how high people will rev before for they shift their classic 900s. I'm just curious, mainly about the mid-80s NA 900s, which is what I drive. With my 1984 VW GLI (a pretty fun car to drive), I used to shift at around 3500 rpm, unless I was really blasting off the line, then maybe 4000 rpm. I almost never went over that. Redline was at around 5800 maybe, I forget. Now with my 1984 900 S, which I've owned for two years, I'll usually shift at 3000 - 3500 rpm, again unless I'm merging onto the highway or really trying to get the thing moving (I've learned it's more of a cruiser than an off-the-line machine). I never go over 4000 rpm. I'm not concerned about gas mileage, more just trying to get the most miles out of the engine. But some people here have said they shift at higher rpms. When do you shift your classic 900? What kind of revs do you think this engine can regularly handle? Thanks for any info, -jw -- 1984 900 S hatchback 135,000 miles
