I had the same problem, and found it to be that the front wheels were slightly buckled. Think previous owner must have hit a kerb or something - anyway, having them all balanced and the buckled wheels on the back sorted the problem. Symptoms appear the same as yours - heavy acceleration past about 70 and it just got worse and worse.
