Subject: Re: Classic 900, occasional smell of petrol inside the car whilst driving

I have this on my 1990 900SE and always have. I was once told by a Saab mechanic that this was common on classic Saabs and that it related to the positioning of the breather tube from the fuel tank. On my car this is a small rubber tube that you can find by looking under the rear bumper on the right hand side. His (the mechanic's) reasoning was that the smell came from vapour getting caught in the vortex around the car. From my experience it's only really happens with the windows open and is worst with the sunroof open. I have tried extending the tube but the car seemed to run funny so I aborted the experiment. If you find a solution then please post it here.
