The 9-5 Automatic will use more breaking as the car does not have any any engine breaking below about 35mph in normal drive gear so to slow you have to break - if you are in slow moving traffic it is worth while using Gear 2 so that you get engine control at low speeds. The engine only revs at 2.2k at about 30mpgh in Gear 2.
