Johannes, Yes, I know the cost of fuel is much cheaper here in the U.S., than anywhere else in Europe. This has generally always been the case for as long as I have been driving (1964). Gosh, I can remember during some "gas war's" back in 1968 when I was driving a Triumph GT6 Mark 1 that Premium gas was available for 18 cents a gallon!!! Most current V6 gas engines actually get quite reasonable mileage. Most new generation computer-controlled V6 gas engines get 25 to 30 MPG on the road. My "other" car is a Dodge Grand Caravan ES with a 3.3L V6 OHV engine, and the van weighs 4,500 lbs. I regularly get 25 to 28 MPG with the AC on during trips on the road. Not too bad for such a large vehicle. Diesels are still not that prevalent here, as Diesel fuel can be more expensive than regular unleaded gas (however, this is not the case at this time). Here in central Illinois our unleaded regular is inching toward the $2.00/gal. rate. Unleaded Premium at many stations is already above that level -- I know, this is still much cheaper than the UK, and elsewhere in Europe. Vy few European manufacturers offer Diesel engines in this country -- certainly not Saab. Only Mercedes and VW, I believe, offer Diesels in their current model line. Peugeot used to offer a Diesel engine, but we don't have Peugeot here anymore, as well as Citroen, FIAT, et. al. Having done extensive traveling in Europe, it's my opinion you have a "much" greater diversity of vehicle choice than we do here in the U.S. There are some really neat cars available that we will never see here.
