Subject: Re: O2 sensor & black smoke?

I hear you've spawned also? (Mine is 3, and a handful. A bit of a smart-ass; must get it from her mother, eh? Drives the computer like a champ, too.) : If you're not get a check engine light, I wouldn't suspect the O2 : sensor. You can use the fault codes to find out. : 12225 is bad 02 sensor. '88 900T. I don't think I *have* codes, do I? I know there's a way to just ohm it out, but I lent my Bosch book to someone (you maybe?) and haven't seen it in years. Blue cover, air mass sensor on front? : From what you are saying I'd suspect the ignition system or fuel : system first. High load on the turbo means very high pressure in the : cylinder which increases the dielectric qualities of the air fuel : mixture making it harder for the spark to jump the gap. Well, I'm not stomping it; the turbo is doing that "skritching" noise, and I only need to keep the car until next year this time, so I'm neglecting that. I don't think it's the turbo, though; it's definately a binary, "it's either doing it, or it's not" thing. Feels like it's flooding, and the black smoke I can see out the tailpipe looks like it's running rich right then. : Also, the additional fuel demands of a high load can expose the : restrictions in a mostly clogged fuel filter. If the stumbling feels : like pre-ignition, Nope, feels like running rich. Pre-ignition is definately something different feeling. Black smoke rules out fule starvation too, right? : this would tend towards inadequate fuel flow as the : problem. I'd change the fuel filter long before I'd sink the cash : into a new 02 sensor. Can't hurt; it's been about 100,000 miles. The one under the car is a bitch to get at, though. I'm actually paying to have some of that sort of stuff done now, believe it or not. I would think, also, if my injectors were grunged up, that it'd do it alot, not just once or twice a day. : Karl Drop me an email with your contact info, please! Dave Hinz
