In the 9-5 auto box has adaptive change control (or a similar set of words ) which keep the car in the same gear as it goes up hill with a constant load so as to minimize the frequent changing up and down as the car moves along. It specifies towing a trailor as an example. I can see some positives in the 9-5 adaptive change business but think that lack of engine braking at greater than 30 mph in D gear is a negative.
