i've driven 7 saabs over the past 12 years. all were bought used for as little as $350.00 all but the one i drive now were 900's some S models some not. all were 8 valve and fuel injected. between those 6 900's i clocked over a 600,000 miles. keep in mind all were used when i bought them and all had over 90,000. one had 180,000. these were all good cars that the owners just got scared of. all were sold with horror stories of how the dealer mechanics had charged a fortune. they all thought it was good that i would be able to work on these cars myself. i bought a 9000t last november and sold off all of the 900's for 500.00 each. believe it or not i got 500.00 for a red 85 model 900 with 372,000 miles on her. that car was bought with 120,000 and in the quarter million miles i put on her she cost me just over a 1000.00 in major maintenanace. i did a tally of money involved including what i've put into the 9000t. this is a list showing model, purchase price, mile i drove the car, major maintenance (but not gas and oil or tires). 82 900S 1500 120,000 none except head liner 83 900 1000 67,000 none but parked when the transmission went out, head liner had dropped 84 900S 850 82,000 left front cv, brake line, master cylinder, headliner 85 900 2500 252,000 exhaust valve cyl 1, both cv, both front wheel bearings, back half of the exhaust system headliner 85 900S 500 105,000 both cv, exhaust from header back, front right wheel bearing, steering rack 85 900 350 12,000 none but tranny went out just after i bought her 87 9000T 2800 22,000 still driving this one and had to put a head gasket on in january. $9500 total with $3200 in maintenance and 638,000 miles. until august 2000 i commuted 260 miles per day to work so cheap transportation was nessesary believe it or not i've never had to put a clutch in "any" car that i've ever owned.
